Sounds of Hamburg
Sounds of Hamburg is an interactive website where you can compose music through a “live” webcam footage of different cities in Germany. By placing the instruments in a place of your choosing, the cars or people (even fish) that move, make music when they pass through your instruments icon. This is a great interactive website for anyone who enjoys playing with music.
The problems I have with this type of website is that the loading time is lengthy. Since it is a live feed it takes time to load. If I didn’t have high speed internet I would not have been able to play with this type of website. Even with my high speed connection I still need to wait, if I didn’t come across the site on a top ten list I may not have even waited for it to load. Many sites have an entertaining loading screen to encourage users to wait for the page to finish. This one doesn’t, and for someone new to the site they may not wait till its done. I myself am one of those inpatient internet users and understand that sometimes I open up another tab just to entertain myself while my first site is loading.
Another issue is sometime no one is driving down the streets to even make the music. Its a gamble that you will even get to hear your personal symphony at different times of the day.
The great parts of the site is the sound, the music was performed by the Hamburg symphony orchestra. When the right number of instrument icons are placed in the right places the city makes the music come alive.
More and more interactive sites like this are popping up all over the web, this one when it loads is great fun. Interactive webpages have to be the future of the internet.
Again, I'd like to see more than just a review of a site.
