Brightkite.com is the future of social networking, its similar to that of Facebook or twitter with profiles and status updates. But what makes this one different is your status up date is your current locations. As an app on your smart phone you can upload your location and see who is close by. This is great for a people on the go, traveling the city, or clubbing.
Unlike twitter I can see how these status updates could do to help bring friends together. For example I enjoy going to conventions such as Comic Con, most of the time can’t find any of friend and the convention center is so loud they never hear their phones. Now if we used Brightkite to update own location from time to time we can find each other. I don’t care what my friend is having for lunch, I rather know if I can join them and spend time catching up off the web.
As more and more people are getting smart phones and wifi being easier to find the more usable a site like this can be. If used correctly this could bring people together rather then apart by keeping them glued to the computer screen. I personally rather have a personal connection with someone then a text chat over a website. You can get that at this at Brightkite and find out a friend you haven’t seen in a while isn’t to far away to get a quick bite to eat with.
